houston

On monday greg and i went downtown for a much needed photo walk. i've been cooped up in the house calling potential employers, so it was great to get out and visit downtown.

i got to see the place my grandma lived when she moved to houston. it is being demolished soon, so it was cool to see it again. it is the place my grandparents met.

also walked by the building she worked in:

downtown is pretty fun, i guess. hah

score!

check out these really cute fire king, bake ware bowls i scored today. apparently they (6 in all) used to be my grandma's, but i've never seen them before. I see some shepherd's pie in my future. any other ideas of what i can make with these?

hey! I had that book

my brother is now a junior in high school. a few days ago, I saw his physics book out on the counter, and exclaimed "Hey, I had that SAME book!" I opened it to find the name of one of my friends a few lines above my brother's.
A few days later, I saw his Lit book on the couch and said, "Hey, I had that same book too!"
we opened it to find that I literally, had the SAME book 7 years ago.

i asked him, "didn't you notice that my name was in there when you signed your name in it??"
to which i got an "iunno" ...typical.

our water guy

this past year, we were not able to drink tap water, so we had to call and have some spring water delivered about every two weeks. we got to know our water guy pretty well over the course of the 6 months we knew him. we would see him on the street a lot, he would come over for short english lessons, we would give him little gifts from the places we traveled and he even brought his daughter over one time.

well, the night before we left, we got an unexpected knock on the door. who was it, but ding wen cheng, our water guy. he was so happy that he caught us before we left, and said he had a present for us.

he had this russian guy who lives across the street sketch his portrait for us, so that we would never forget him. isn't that the sweetest thing ever? now i know i will always remember him

also found this pic of my feets on a rainy day in berkeley, circa feb, 2008:

unpacking nightmare

i've been home for about a week and a half, and i still haven't made much progress in the unpacking department. my mom gave me her 'studio' room to unpack in and take all the sweet time i need. so that means i'm moving pretty slowly.

where am i going to put all of this little stuff??

more dancing

while we were in central asia, we showed the students we were working with the dancing video we made in east asia. They absolutely loved it, and since they all love to dance, they wanted to make our own, English Club version. One Saturday, we all got together and danced our way through the city!
